A group of 21 wounded veterans took to the waters of San Diego Bay in June and participated in a three-day sailing course. A partnership between Armed Services YMCA and San Diego Yacht Club brought these wounded veterans onto the water and sail despite their disabilities and injuries.

One of the San Diego wounded veterans who participated in the event discovered a new love for the water. “It’s a program where they teach you, but then you go out … and you’re actually doing it,” Klotz told The Log. “So they’ll show how to do sails, but the participants do it themselves.” She added, “People who didn’t think they could do this are now making careers out of it,” she said. “I know this is something I want to do. It helped me find a new love.”

The Warrior Sailing program helps train veterans from all branches of the military.
