Warrior, the Volvo 70, owned by the USMMA Sailing Foundation is yet another great platform for training the next generation of offshore sailors. She had to be moved from Bermuda to Baltimore. So how about getting this call from Ralf, “We need someone to crew from Bermuda to Baltimore. Are you in?”
Josh Agripino sure was. Fresh off the race course at Charleston Race Week, Josh answered the call and then some. They left the Bermuda port on a Friday afternoon and introduced him to the halyard swing for a little ocean swimming fun. Then onward thru the Gulfstream.
“I was just in race mode and kept heating up. That time it was a bit too much and I couldn’t steer down,” as Josh reflects putting the boat on her ear. “Luckily Jan and Ben were on deck and able to let out the main. It was still pretty fun! Got to 24 knots.”
He had plenty of lessons learned on that trip including the fact that he needs to take some motion sickness pills next time he goes offshore and you get pretty wet going through the Gulfstream. Still Josh is happy that he went on the trip and to “love it just as much as you hate it.”
