For four years running, Markel is proud to support Warrior Sailing in their mission to teach veterans how to sail. The Warrior Sailing program provides veterans with a path for healing, connection, and purpose, changing the lives of hundreds who participate in the program. With Markel’s financial support, this mission can reach even more people, making the community, skills, and mission more accessible to the veteran community.
Warrior Sailing has much on the horizon for 2026. The team is gearing up to participate in the Ugotta Regatta hosted by The Little Traverse Yacht Club, as well as reentering the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, an annual 333-mile race spanning several Great Lakes. These races provide more competitive outlets for advanced sailors who have completed the program and amplify Warrior Sailing’s reach in the Great Lakes region.
“Warrior Sailing exists to empower wounded, ill, and injured veterans through education, camaraderie, and purpose found on the water, building a foundation that has led to more than 850 Basic Training Camp graduates since 2015 and 3,300+ sailing opportunities Nationwide,” said Ben Poucher, national director of Warrior Sailing. “We’re incredibly grateful to Markel Insurance for renewing their support with a new three-year commitment, which helps our graduates continue their journey through advanced sailing experiences including competing on a world stage in the Chicago to Mackinac Race each July.”
