Wounded Warriors Learn New Skills to Heal
For many wounded warriors, finding a way to forget the disabilities they came home with is a huge relief. The Warrior Sailing Program gives wounded veterans a chance to take to the water and experience the joy of sailing just like anyone else.
The San Diego Yacht Club has hosted the sailing camps as a way to encourage healing through team building and self-reliance. Students come from all branches of the military and many go on to advance their sailing skills and join the sport competitively.
Wounded Veterans Take on the Waters of San Diego
For the second year in a row, the San Diego Yacht Club has hosted a new type of training for its wounded veterans. The Warrior Sailing Program gives active military and veterans a chance to learn the new skill of sailing.
San Diego hosted the 3-day training camp this year and plans to host more WSP camps in the future. Advanced training through the USMMA Sailing Foundation is also available.
Red Carpet for Start of Clagett
Newport, Rhode Island proudly held the 14th annual C. Thomas Clagett Jr. Memorial Clinic and Regatta this June. This memorial regatta was initiated to assist sailors with disabilities to further their sailing capabilities in hopes of “bringing home the gold.”
Competitors often comment that, The Clagett, has improved their quality of life as they apply what is achieved on the water to everyday situations.
Warrior Sailing Coming to Annapolis
The Warrior Sailing program is coming to Annapolis. This is a specialized camp for military vets giving them a chance to learn new sailing skills and pair them with their military team building expertise.
After learning new sailing skills and tactics, the military teams put these new skills to use in a friendly race.
