Goal: Safety at Sea Seminar
In order to race in the Chicago to Mackinac, 50% of a boat’s crew needs to have completed a US Sailing Safety at Sea Seminar. We took it a step further and trained the whole crew.
First off, thank you all for helping us reach our goal of 100 subscribers on YouTube. Our channel is now https://youtube.com/c/warriorsailing. Stay tuned for videos throughout the summer as we make our way around Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.Last Saturday Warrior Sailing spearheaded our first Safety at Sea Seminar in Northport, MI. Working with US Sailing’s Bill Biewenga and the Leelanau County Fire Department, 20 people completed the training in lifesaving and fire safety techniques. Life raft deployment, fire fighting, and safety equipment maintenance we all covered – providing everyone hands on experience for things often taken for granted.
One of the biggest take aways was that anyone wearing an inflatable PFD’s should have the realization that they may very likely need to inflate their equipment manually.
Thank you all who made this possible, especially those local sailors who helped to offset the cost of this training by choosing to learn with the Warrior crew.
