Based out of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, this year’s participants experienced perfect conditions on Tampa Bay, with three full days of steady breeze.
Warrior Sailing began in 2013 at the St. Petersburg Sailing Center. The first camp was attended by Special Operations Command Warriors out of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. Since this initial camp, the last six years of growth have come directly out of demand from the veteran population. Our team of coaches, volunteers, yacht clubs, and supporters have helped to graduate over 400 Warriors throughout the country. St. Petersburg delivered yet another week of perfect weather for our annual December camp. 18 new sailors and four alumni took to the waters of Tampa Bay to learn a new skill, and make some new friends. Brisk (for Florida) temperatures were accompanied by northerly winds with sunshine and lots of smiles on the water. We are always amazed at the progress our sailors make over their three days on the water; from boat handling to team building, this camp proved no exception.
While our coaches and volunteers helped us execute a world-class training experience on the water, none of it would have been possible without the generous support of local restaurants and groups ashore who kept the Warriors fueled up and ready to go each day.
Thank you to the Warriors attending the camp and to everyone else that made another successful camp! Lets all welcome the 18 new warrior sailors to our community.
What is next for Warrior Sailing
We’re working on finalizing the 2020 schedule and will have it published in the new year. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the water again soon!
