After a long month of training, 2,300+ mile offshore races, and equivalent distance deliveries onboard the Warrior 53; the Warrior team of 9 finished strong racing in the annual Ugotta Regatta hosted by Little Traverse Yacht Club in Harbor Springs, Michigan. This is a premiere event of ‘tour of the bay’ coastal racing among some of the most competitive teams in the Great Lakes. Warrior 53 showed some amazing progress with teamwork at the highest level. Accomplishments for the team have little to do with the final corrected time finishes amongst the competition, but more about how well we raced the boat as a team. The coaching staff continued to be amazed at the progress in such a short period of time.
Special thanks to the Quantum/Windquest 52 Race team for hosting us at their morning briefing. Thank you Doug DeVos and the entire crew for showing the Warriors how welcoming the sailing community can be.
We also appreciate the local youth sailors who joined our team for practice on Friday. Combining Warriors and youth sailors as one team is a goal for our parent organization, the USMMA Sailing Foundation (USMMASF). We are so proud of these young sailors for braving the day onboard Warrior 53, sailing and learning alongside the men and women of Warrior Sailing.
Look for more emails recapping the month long Warrior 53 Great Lakes Tour, special “thank you” support, and a look into our plan for next year on the Lakes! We’re all excited to continue to improve on our success for years to come.
