Warrior Sailing’s Charlevoix Clubhouse
Since our first Chicago-Mac race in 2018, Northern Michigan has served as the ultimate “graduate school” for Warrior Sailors to hone their skills. What began as a quest for the “next steps” in our program evolved into a permanent home in Charlevoix—a location chosen for its incredible community support and the perfect blend of “less noise and more impact.” After years of competing in local racing, the Ugotta Regatta, and multiple Mackinac races, we realized our Warriors needed a dedicated training ground. In late 2023, thanks to the leadership of the local yacht club, we secured a long-term lease on an abandoned building. A dedicated group of Warrior graduates and staff spent the following summer reviving the space, transforming it into a world-class facility where veterans continue their pathways in both sailing and life.
A Season of Growth and Impact
The Summer 2025 season marked our first full year of programming at the Clubhouse, proving just how vital this permanent location has become for our community:
- Participation & Events: From June through September, we hosted 7 major events involving 75 Warrior Sailors, coaches, and volunteers.
- Hands-On Education: Sailors expanded their technical expertise through Sailing Systems courses covering onboard electrical and diesel mechanics.
- Skill Milestones: We celebrated the debut of our first-ever Women’s Cruise Adventure and saw multiple sailors earn credentials through the ASA 103 Coastal Cruising course.
- Competitive Excellence: Our racing team maintained a constant presence on the water, participating in Wednesday night series on our J95, the Ugotta Regatta in Harbor Springs, and the Red Fox Regatta.
- Advanced Training: Programs like the Safety at Sea course and Performance Sailing Camp provided the essential seamanship and race-focused coaching required for high-level competition.
The Charlevoix Clubhouse, featuring a classroom, galley, and accessible facilities is more than just a building; it is a permanent anchor for our mission. By providing a stable environment for summer directorship, cruising, and racing, we are ensuring that the momentum started in 2018 continues to build skills, confidence, and community for years to come.
