Summer Sports Clinic
Warrior Sailing had yet another great experience teaching sailing at the National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic in San Diego. Without fail, this five day-event saw 20+ wounded veterans each day out on the waters off Coronado in perfect conditions – sunny with 10-15 knots of wind. Many thanks to the MWR Fiddlers Cove staff, the numerous volunteers and event organizers, the Navy Yacht Club, and the VA Adaptive Sports Program.
Sail for Hope
A week after the Summer Sports Clinic, Warrior Sailing participated once more in the annual Sail for Hope in Newport, Rhode Island. Throughout the event, the Warriors stayed aboard the SSV Oliver Hazard Perry at historic Fort Adams. The OHPRI crew provided a unique introduction to tall ship sailing and the intricacies of square rigs. Participants also got to learn a little about cruising as they delivered a Little Harbor 62’ down the bay to Newport Shipyard. For the race itself, the crew was divided among three boats: a C&C 30’, a Westerly 60’, and a Tripp 43’ where they learned the ropes from seasoned sailors on a breezy course around Jamestown.
Topping it all off, the group had the incredible opportunity to tour Team American Magic’s base with Terry Hutchinson. Getting to see the AC75 up close and personal was an unexpected treat that everyone will undoubtably remember for years to come. Thanks everyone involved for making it happen!
