44 hours and 26 minutes after the start, the crew of Warrior 53 completed the 111th CYC Race to Mackinac.

The Chicago-Mac Race was another great challenge for the nine Warriors racing onboard the Warrior 53. We (Ben and the Warrior Sailing coaches) are so proud of our teamwork and our crew’s dedication to sailing the boat consistently and safely.

For those of you that followed along on the tracker, you saw us crushing it and looking at a podium finish in Section 2 of the race. With seven miles to the finish, a huge thunderstorm to the south west consumed all of our wind. We were left completely still and sailing upwind. While this was happening, the storm’s energy gave wind to all of our competitors sailing behind us. We watched in agony as our podium finish slipped away over those last seven miles.

That is sailing, and it doesn’t take away from our amazing race.

We were first to finish across the line in our tough section of boats. And our corrected time left us 6th out of 15 boats in our section. Great effort. It was an improvement on our place in last year’s Chi-Mac.

We’re looking forward to the Port Huron to Mac Race next weekend. Stay tuned for more photos from the race and to hear more about how to follow us on the water next weekend!
